The Bhagavadgita is an eternal spiritual message that was first discovered in the ancient India. Gita is both a song and a word. Bhagavad is a Hebrew word which means God. Two people were seated in a chariot, in the heart of a huge battlefield in the north of central India just a few hundred years earlier. The yogi Arjunawas one of the two who knew that it would not be long before conflict broke out. He requested Krishna (Master of Yoga) what he should think and how he should look at the situation. He also demanded Krishna the master of Yoga (Yogeshwara) what would be the best thing to do.

The impossible was to come across empty words. Krishna taught Arjuna what it takes to live a full life that is self-knowledgeful and self-mastery in a very brief discussion.

It was a bloody battle and all lost. Vyasa's epic poem The Mahabharata (The Great Indian War) was composed by Vyasa. The poet turned Krishna's inspiring teachings to be a valuable jewel. They were quickly extracted and named Bhagavad Gita ("The Song of God") that circulated throughout the subcontinent.

This was many thousand years back. Nowadays, the Gita can be seen in almost every Indian household and has been translated into all major languages of the world. Literally billions on million copies of the Gita were written and printed. In the past the South African spiritual organization printed one million copies and distributed them for free. Rudyard Kipling was made a Freemason of Lahore when four of his scriptures were placed at the altar.

What makes the Gita so appealing? It's practical and devoid from any vague or abstract thought. My first trip to India was more than 40 years back. I came across a yogi living in a tiny boat along the GangesRiver in Benares (Varanasi). He couldn't write or speak and yet people would come to him for advice for years. How did he accomplish this? He was equipped with an original copy of the Bhagavad Gita. Upon being asked about the issue or issue the Gita would be opened and then point to a specific section, providing the inquirer with an all-inclusive and complete solution.

My spiritual awakening began by getting me out of my comfort zone and into a brand new world filled with realities I didn't know how to manage. I struggled to navigate the new reality until I purchased a book in paperback of the Bhagavadgita. I didn't bother to read it. I breathed it in. I wasn't listening to words from a dead teacher; my Self was talking directly to me via the pages in this book. I also did not learn anything from Gita-I other than what I knew. Eternal Self spoke Eternal Truth. My life was transformed by the Bhagavad Gita, which brought me a life that never ends.

There was never an issue throughout my lifetime that the Gita didn't make clear or helped me address or comprehend. It is not the case that it is dogmatic. Krishna spoke to Arjuna at the end "Now, I have taught you the wisdomwhich is secret of secrets." It is worth taking the time to think about it. "Then, act as you think is best." There aren't any threats or promises to be made, nor is there any coercion. The reader is in charge of the final outcome.

Even better, the Bhagavad Gita is a reminder that it is possible to attain a level of understanding beyond what it tells. It teaches us how. It is best reading the Gita every day throughout your life.
